Psychological development of children
The psychological development of children is particularly challenging. Children are in a constant process of growing, changing and need to overcome important threshold situations, such as transitioning from kindergarten to school. Meanwhile they might also be exposed to challenging external influences, such as conflicts, separations, moving, or academic pressure.
In order to cope well within a complex social environment, children must learn to understand their emotions, regulate them, and lern how to communicate their needs adequately. To learn this children need individual support from their parents, teachers, and sometimes even from therapists.
Does my child need psychotherapy?
If your child is experiencing difficulties, it can be extremely beneficial to seek therapeutic support at an early stage, as psychological issues can become chronic and an early intervention usually relieves the entire family system.
Child psychotherapy focuses on the emotional, cognitive, and social developmental needs of children. To gain access to a child’s inner world, age-appropriate and developmentally suitable methods (e.g., play therapy, role-playing) are used.
Child psychotherapy also places a greater emphasis on involving the family environment to ensure a holistic support, as children are still highly dependent on their surroundings.
We are a qualified practice with an integrative approach. We value strong collaboration with parents and, if necessary, with other important institutions, such as schools. Please note that child psychotherapy can only take place on-site at our practice.
